Seasons & licenses by state
Released-bird hunting is licensed at the state level. Your operator handles their side; here's what your group needs to know.
| State | Preserve season | What hunters need |
|---|---|---|
| Texas | Year-round on licensed private bird hunting areas | Hunters need a valid Texas hunting license with the Upland Game Bird endorsement; a $27 Non-resident Banded Bird license is available for out-of-state guests. |
| Georgia | October 1 – March 31 | A Georgia shooting preserve license ($12 for 2 years) covers hunting pen-raised birds on licensed preserves. |
| South Carolina | October – March (preserve season) | Licenses are available through Go Outdoors SC with immediate access. |
| Alabama | October – March (preserve season) | A 7-day Commercial Fowl Hunting Preserve License is available for residents and non-residents hunting on licensed preserves. |
| Florida | Fall – Spring (preserve season) | Groups hunting released quail need a daily released quail permit; your outfitter will walk you through it. |
