The basics
What is a kick & shoot?
A kick and shoot is our name for a released-bird hunt: an operator raises or buys pen-reared game birds — usually quail or pheasant — releases them on a licensed preserve, and your group shoots a fast, high-volume day of wingshooting with dogs, guides, and a serious lunch.
The industry has a few names for the format:
- Continental shoot / tower shoot — birds are released from a central tower toward shooting stations arranged around it. The closest thing to a European driven shoot on this side of the Atlantic.
- Preserve hunt — walk-up hunting over pointing dogs on a licensed shooting preserve.
- European / driven-style shoot — the upscale label for the same idea.
Who does this?
Corporate groups entertaining clients, bachelor parties, charity fundraisers, and wingshooters who want guaranteed birds and no 5 a.m. scouting. No dogs, gear, or land required — good operations provide everything, including loaner guns.
What does it cost?
Public tower shoots start around $290 per gun with meals included. Private events run roughly $6,500 for a 24-gun day up to $12,000+ for large corporate shoots. Half-day guided preserve hunts start around $350.
Is it legal? Regulated?
Yes — every state we cover licenses these operations (shooting preserve or private bird hunting area licenses), and every provider listed on this site holds a current license and liability coverage. That's the point of the directory.
